It’s been more than a decade since APRA Award-winning artist Jade MacRae released a single under her own name, and her return delivers inspiring soul hit Up Above Your Head.

Although not releasing music under her own name since 2008, MacRae has been quite busy, from providing vocals for hit Australian film The Sapphires to collaborating and performing with Joe Bonamassa and stacks more.

“Everyone knows what it’s like to feel frustrated or helpless; this song is for those moments when you need a spark to get your fire burning again,” MacRae told The Music of her new single.

“Although written as a response to political unrest, the emotion in the song expresses a call to action which can apply to any aspect of life, be it personal, professional, or anything else.”

As an added bonus, The Music also has the pleasure of premiering a live cut of the new single, filmed during Vivid Sydney 2019’s Women In Music Showcase.

Speaking with OG Flavas earlier this year, MacRae noted on her as-yet-untitled album: "I'm trying to carve out, I guess, the next chapter of my career. I feel like for the first time I'm really doing it on my own terms.

"It's a brutal amount of work, but it's also super-fulfilling. When you feel like you're in the right place at the right time, there's an enormous sense of peace in that. So, even though I'm exhausted, it's a good 'tired'. I'm excited to actually get the music out there in the world so I can start playing more shows live and bringing it to the people."
