SINGLE PREMIERE: Colie - 'Half Of What You Are'

North Queensland singer-songwriter Colie returns today with a brand new single and we here at theMusic.com.au are stoked to bring you the exclusive online premiere. 

The track titled Half Of What You Are, sees Colie, aka Nicole Cross, using her experience growing up with a twin brother in Townsville to explore gender stereotyping.

"I have been writing poetry and music since a very young age, however no song has struck me quite like this one did," Cross told The Music. 

"Writing Half Of What You Are was a huge relief, bringing an issue to my own attention that often slips through the cracks and goes unspoken. I do feel that there is a shift happening in terms of breaking down gender stereotypes, but there is still a long way to go, as can be seen when walking into the children’s toy aisle of any department store in the country. 

I have a lot I could say on this topic, but the most important thing I want to say is thank you to the strong women in my life who have taught me how to be strong and continue to inspire me to be brave enough to release songs such as this one."

Colie will be heading out on her first headline tour to launch the single next month, including supporting Alex Lahey on her upcoming regional tour.
