More Babaganouj More Babaganouj

Brisbane's premier indie-pop-rock troupe, Babaganouj, have been keeping a crazy-full calendar this year, sticking to their guns on their promise to release three EPs in 2016 with the imminent arrival of Hard To Be, the follow-up effort to this year's earlier extended player, Pillar Of Light.

Precipitating the next EP's release — it's due out in August — the 'Nouj are previewing their newest batch of work by way of fresh single Sorry, which theMusic.com.au is pumped to be premiering for the band today. With each of the year's three EPs designed to showcase the particular performance and creative talents of the band's individual members, Sorry and its adjacent tracks on Hard To Be serve as a window to the inner workings of rhythm guitarist Ruby McGregors. The end result here is something hugely evocative of the 'Nouj we know and love while extending the conceit to unique realms as McGregors takes centre stage among the song's jangly, fuzz-hewn, eminently listenable soundscape.

The single is a strong enough prospect on its own but optimistically speaking, if earlier single Do Rite With Me Tonite — which appeared on Pillar Of Light — was any indication, we should be in for a pretty dang great film clip too when it comes time to add visuals to the already hugely infectious tune. No pressure.

To celebrate their latest EP release, Babaganouj have lined up a couple of south-east-coast launch shows around its unveiling — first, at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory, on Friday 19 August; and the next day, 20 August, at the Croxton Front Bar, in Melbourne. See theGuide for further details; you'll want to get along if you can, because they've got another whole EP to get through before the year's out so will undoubtedly have to put their heads down and squirrel themselves away once more pretty soon if they want to make that deadline.
