Siamese On What Separates Adelaide Music From The Rest

"Adelaide is such a hidden little gem."

More Siamese More Siamese

Channelling a healthy dose of '90s alt-rock, Adelaide band Siamese are set to tear up The Music Stage at Scouted 2018 later this month. We chat with vocalist Tom Matheson to gain some insight into what separates the Adelaide music scene from others.

Tell us a little bit about your latest single, Slaughterhouse…

Our latest single, Slaughterhouse, is lyrically based on a futuristic vision of the world we live in today. It explores various themes throughout that vision; we initially just wanted to make a song that had a good beat and a certain glow about it. It sounds pretty eerie to me now, not as melodic as I remembered.

What makes Adelaide music so great?

It’s certainly got its own sound, maybe because there’s not a whole lot of flooding in the scene here. Everyone has their own space to move within, you aren’t competing with a lot of other bands that sound similar to you.

How have you seen the local scene develop in recent years?

Oh yeah, definitely. My introduction to the local scene was essentially when we started the band – around three years ago now, I think? I didn’t think too much of it then, it seemed pretty stagnant, but now I definitely think that there is some momentum within the scene and it’s garnering some national attention.

Why are events like Music SA’s artist showcase Scouted so important?

Adelaide is such a hidden little gem, most often, people and bands don’t bother to come here, so, for Scouted to essentially offer bands the chance to showcase their talent to industry heads is really a blessing.

Favourite acts on the Scouted line-up?

Blush Response, Fair Maiden and Donnarumma.

What do you have planned for the rest of the year and beyond?

We’ve got some shows planned and hopefully finishing off some writing/demoing for our next release.
