More Record Store Day More Record Store Day

Answered by: Chris Gill (The Man)

What does your store specialise in? Northside Records is the soul of Melbourne. We help support the great bands in this town however we can. Radio, record sales, instores, DJing, dance-a-thons and more. We sell all sorts of music, though.

What's on high rotation on the store stereo at the moment and why? Still the 30/70 record. The Teskey Brothers. Cookin' On 3 Burners. Yussef Kamaal. Solange. Filipino funk, Blue Note Records, the drum'n'bass remix of the VB theme song (actually not...) 24 hours in laps.

What does a record store offer that clicking or tapping a button can't? People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People and records.

Despite declines in other areas of the industry, vinyl is seeing an increase in sales. Why do you think that is? It's not. Vinyl was never counted for a long time. No one really counted the hip hop records that were sold by the shitloads in this country. Journalists are slack.

What have you got planned on Record Store Day (including any sweet exclusives you'll have)? Three bands: Cookin' On 3 Burners, Allysha Joy and Jazz Party. Instore signing with Briggs. Choi has copies of his White Lines 45". We have DJs all day. Also a reissue of Hiroshi & Claudia.
