Masters of puppets

Two men are taking the art of puppetry to new heights

We have sort of taken a penis and rolled it in glitter, for this new show – if that makes any sense,” exclaims Puppetry Of The Penis member Simon Morley.

Perhaps in naivety, one must ask how such a concept was born...“Only a girl could ask that,” Morley responds. “[Genital origami] is just what we do from a very early age. We step out of the shower, we look in the mirror and go, 'Hang on a second, what does that look like?'

“The first dick-trick I ever saw was from my younger brother, he showed me a hamburger and once you've seen your first hamburger, you will never forget it.”

Puppetry Of The Penis was first performed at the 1998 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and received the Outright Best Show. ”It has most definitely changed a lot,” explains Morley. “Now in 3D, if we perform the pelican [one of the 12 'dick tricks'], then the pelican will actually have a pelican's body.

“Audiences can expect to be ducking from genitala,” Morley quips. “No really – penises will be jumping off the screen at them.”
