Pub BBQs

It's gettin' hot out there, so take out all your BBQs. We are gettin' so hot, we wanna eat some sausages. Poor Nelly parody aside, which pub will satiate this craving?

VIC

Labour In Vain — 197A Brunswick St, Fitzroy

A chargrilled cheers to the rooftop bar deck for a pop-up BBQ that salutes booze and free live music! Yep, Labour In Vain will open her retractable roof and weatherblinds this summery season for a few occasional barbies in the breeze. She'll even let you have her all to yourself if you have 30 or more pals and are willing to chip in $10 each.

The Brunswick Hotel  140 Sydney Rd, Brunswick

Rumour has it they've been grillin' some old man's buns lately. Old Man's Gully Beef Burgers, that is — and they're mouth-wateringly tender as hell. Suss the bun, the killer beer garden and the beer on tap. You don't have to put nothin' in the oven at The Brunny.

Riverland  19 Federation Wharf, Melbourne (under Princes Bridge)

You can rely on this year-round outdoor joint for a snag before the game, a beer just 'cause, or both — you heart your BBQs and booze anytime. Us too. Especially if we can cop some rays at the same time. Wood-smoked frankfurter with mustard pickle, jack cheese and dill cucumber, anyone?

The Tote  67—71 Johnston St, Collingwood

Prepare to wake up with the dregs of a tomato sauce moustache or mustard on your fave tee. Things will get out of hand, in a really good way, very quickly at a Tote BBQ. Sometimes they're even free?! Music. Meat. Mates. Booze. Buddies. No wonder we're so excited.

The Oxford Tavern  1 New Canterbury Rd, Petersham

Snag-ry? Once-a-month BBQs or TBA Sunday Sessions simply not enough? EVERY Friday from 6pm, and Saturday and Sunday after 12pm, Black Betty is at The Oxford. You betcha. Three days a week. Low and slow American-style Bar-Be-Que cookin' in the beer garden. Stop it.

The Oaks Hotel  118 Military Rd, Neutral Bay

Beer garden. Juicy steaks. Chicken kebabs. Yes, yes and yes. Not only does this place have these things — you can also head outside, don your apron and chuck 'em on the BBQ yourself! We're not kidding. Give me a home under the oak tree, with a bar-bee, a sheep or two and a...

Sweethearts Rooftop BBQ  33-37 Darlinghurst Rd, Potts Point

The smell of a barbie and summer in the air sure makes us swoon. Any wonder these guys are tickling our heart and fondling our tastebuds. It's obvious they fancy their customers too, though: they'll be glazing pork belly, grilling salmon skewers and turning shrimp on the BBQ.

Erskineville Hotel — 102 Erskineville Rd, Erskineville

The Erko is whipping up a smoky storm in her backyard, barbecuing your meal in her infamous smoker while you sip your craft beer and thank the heavens you found her. Yep, that Erko sure is a keeper. Catering for meat lovers, veggie friends and people who get windy after wheat, Erskinville Hotel is anyone's type.
