PREMIERE: Stillwater Giants - Montage

Resurgent Perth outfit Stillwater Giants are in the final stretch before unveiling their eagerly awaited debut studio full-length but, before they unleash the album on hungry ears, the band have first generously given The Music the premiere look at their jangly new single, Montage.

After last year's well-received Patience, the track is the second taste to come from the forthcoming record, due for release in the coming months. It continues the remarkable assurance of form conveyed in that earlier single, which came following a period of radio silence, during which the band clearly paid attention to some of the finer points of composing songs to emerge more mature and capable songwriters than ever.

Montage does much to corroborate that idea, its falsetto backing 'oohs' and restrained yet urgent instrumentation buoying the vocal work of frontman Henry Clarke — himself a wielder of impressive range — on the way to an opening up of drive and spirit for the chorus refrain. It's infectious, it's upbeat, and it's devilishly moreish, leaving us well and truly hooked at the prospect of getting more of this goodness when the album drops at last.

The band will be launching the single with a one-off show at Mojo's Bar next Friday, 29 April, before setting off for a WA tour — and hopefully beyond — around the time the LP makes its appearance.
