Port Fairy Folk Festival Favourites: Cooper Lower

Ahead of his performance at the 43rd Port Fairy Folk Festival, local south west Victorian musician Cooper Lower shares with us his favourite haunts in the quaint seaside village.

Favourite book store: I absolutely love Blarney Books & Art. The walls of this gorgeous bookstore have been witness to my development in its entirety. It’s a quaint, colourful room pulsing with positive energy curated by Jo and Dean Canham. My involvement with the bookstore has spanned largely from their concert showcases, where listeners gather young and old, taking their seats on beanbags, couches and fancy chairs to hear stories and share their experiences with strangers. These concerts are a projection of the potential we have as a listening community in the south west, where people are free to embrace their common humanity.

Favourite spot for breakfast: Rebecca’s Cafe. This warm and inviting cafe has some pretty interesting retro detail, making it even more lovely as a spot to meet with a friend for brunch along the popular Sackville Street.

Favourite spot for coffee: Bank St + Co. The coffee is great and you just have to try the food! The owners have travelled a lot and had a lot of international hospitality experiences, so you certainly feel the love in Bank St + Co.

Favourite beach: Head to Pea Soup Beach along the south side of Port Fairy for a nice dip. The water is clear and can be quite shallow, so you can walk out and simply feel like you are a part of a postcard!

Favourite shop: Poco Artisan Ice Cream. You simply cannot go to Port Fairy without sampling the excellent ice cream and sorbet from this family-run shop. Check opening times before you go though, as the ice-cream is seasonal!
