EP Foucs: Marshall Okell - Sugar

How many releases do you have now?
This will be my third release with another album due out later this year.

How long did it take to write/record?
This album took 18 months of writing and pre-prods and about three months to track it and mix it.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making?
Yes, living up on the North Coast in Lennox Head, surfing and jamming heaps. I had the opportunity to work with new musicians on this record; Ryan Van Gennip and Jon Howell from the band Chase The Sun and also Julz Parker and Leesa Gentz from The Hussy Hicks. I also had my good friend Brian 'Birdy' Burdett co-produce the whole album, who we sadly lost in a car crash a month ago. He was a very inspiring person and full of happiness and love. I think that really came through on this record.

What's your favourite song on it?
Today my fave track on the Sugar EP would be the title track, Sugar.

Will you do anything differently next time?
Always trying to evolve and have fun with new sounds and musical adventures. So yes, we will try to do a heap of things differently next time. I would like to one day record a live record, maybe something like that next time, or a crazy hillbilly record full of stomp and groove... who knows?

Will you be launching it?
Yes, we are launching it with an East Coast tour of Australia. We'll be at The Annandale Hotel on Saturday 28 April, Towradgi Beach Hotel on Sunday 29, The Wickham Park Hotel in Newcastle on Thursday 3 May and Old Manly Boatshed on Friday 4.
