Have You Heard: The Ramshackle Army

17 July 2012 | 4:30 am | Staff Writer

Get to know The Ramshackle Army a little more.

Your music is…?
Celtic folk punk… or Celtmosh!

Which acts inspired you to produce your own music and why?
Growing up in the Aussie punk scene during the '90s there where a lot of hardworking local bands who inspired me to play music, the usual suspects like The Living End, Bodyjar, Frenzal Rhomb etc.  When it came time to form The Ramshackle Army, the obvious bands like The Pogues, Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys all sprang up.

What's your wildest ambition for your music?
Probably the “wildest” is also the most common, and perhaps the least likely. Like most bands out there, it would be amazing to us if we could be financially stable just as musicians. Give up the day job and travel around the world playing the music we love to the fans who appreciate it.

Why should we come and see you?
An RSA show is always a party. The music we play is supposed to be fun, loose and allow you to move your arse whether you've heard it before or its your first time listening.

How do you find the local live scene?
The live music scene in Australia is fantastic and has been really good to us. As a band with only a handful of direct Celt punk peers in Australia, we often find ourselves playing with bands of differing styles from rockabilly to pop punk and straight dirty pub rock.

What's your greatest rock'n'roll moment?

Probably our second show with Dropkick Murphys on the St Pats Tour. We were playing at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut and all we knew about it was that it was an “Indian Casino” in the middle of nowhere. We pulled up in a loading dock and got directed to side stage for soundcheck where an empty 8,000 arena opened up in front of us. It was at that moment I thought “What the f'k have we gotten ourselves in to?”  Playing a venue that size is not something I'll soon repeat, or forget.
