The Melbourne-via-Townsville muso returns with a stunning collection of accessible, atmospheric jams.

It's been a while since Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Kate Martin broke through with her excellent 2012 album, Hand Me My Bow & Arrow, following that LP's release with a move from her hometown of Townsville to her new base in Victoria and spending the ensuing years growing and developing her craft.

The end result of all that hard work is the gorgeously realised Set My Life To Fire, a 10-track collection of stunningly crafted, consistently accessible atmospheric electro-pop tunes. The album opens with the multi-layered plea of Tell Me Not To Fear Pt 1 — reprised at the conclusion of the record — with its considered composition and ethereal dynamic shifts setting the scene for the adventure to come.

Full of downtempo grooves, ethereal soundscapes, engaging arrangements and effortlessly appealing vocals, Set My Life To Fire is a remarkable step forward for the talented songwriter, a bold and beautiful follow-up to her standout sophomore record, and an exciting indicator of what's yet to come.

With the album in the bag and out in the world, Martin will undoubtedly set out for some shows in support sooner rather than later; make sure you're caught up on what she's up to in the coming months by connecting with her on Facebook.
