Album title? A New World

Where did the title of your new album come from? The title embodies a few new beginnings while acknowledging the past. It's a very forward looking record with themes of hope, trust, growing older. There's a sense of transition to it.

How many releases do you have now? Four solo albums two band albums with my old group Second Child in NZ.

How long did it take to write/record? I'm pretty picky! I get enough of what I think are good enough songs then I put them down gradually. Guitar and vocals go down first then I build up everything else around those foundations.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? I think the events of the last few years, getting married, new job, working with new people maybe spawned work that was more hopeful and optimistic. I'd been working on developing my singing range-wise too.

What's your favourite song on it? Ships Sail Out is it for me. It holds images of my past and a pledge for the future.

Will you do anything differently next time? I worked with two different producers on A New World to great effect. I guess doing it all live in a room with a band would be a nice luxury.

When and where is your launch/next gig? Thursday 2 June at Brighton Up Bar, 1/77 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst. 8pm. It's a dual record release with Bryan Estepa who has a new album Every Little Thing.
