Album title? I’m Alive

Where did the title of your new album come from? Title track. The song is about finding joy in life, being positive. After battling health issues over ten years, this album was my new beginning. I felt alive. I was saying, ‘I’m back! I win!’

How many releases do you have now? This is the debut for Chich.

How long did it take to write/record? I accumulated the songs over some years. But we recorded the songs live over five days, then another seven to add strings, trumpet, keys, mixing and mastering. It was kept simple and heaps of fun.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? Gigging sporadically and solo for so long-simply playing with a great bunch of guys and musicians was inspiring. I had so much fun, my planned EP turned into an LP.

What’s your favourite song on it? They all have their moments. But I’m Alive because of what it means to me; its great soul, gospel feel.

Will you do anything differently next time? Definitely record live again. This time I’ve got a band, really looking forward to nutting things out before we record. I’m Alive was seen and recorded on the day.
