India Nine 9 take their performance to the next level at Gignition.
Closing out the night and another enjoyable Gignition were hard-rock trio Sciatica, who got the crowd thrashing and kept rocking until the end with the swaggery rock’n’ roll style of their originals.
The boys absolutely slayed on the guitar and it was incredible to watch. Although these acts still have a way to go, Gignition is a great way to begin.
Featuring a lead singer on keyboards, some burning guitar lines, heavy thumping bass and a brand new drummer who had only just learnt the songs, the band brought the night to a wicked end.
Their warm, nicely weighted sound – filled out with some chunky Korg technology – eased the night to a close with a final swell of bittersweet emotion.
The outdoor venue unfortunately lost a lot of the mid and high frequencies which assumedly took away from the sound they were trying to achieve, however they purveyed exactly what they needed to.
Overall the evening showcased a talented mix of up-and-coming Perth musicians.
Wall’s Spillane-esque storytelling illuminated an atmospheric number packed with femme fatales and grimy machismo; one of the night’s most compelling moments.
As much as it would have been good to see them with a band behind, the laid-back vibe of their set was a great closer to another entertaining and varied Gignition performance.
While the guitar didn’t lift above the wall, the drums provided the flourish to give emotion, as well as propulsion, to the music, with the vocals staying high and clean even as they howled out till the close of the venue.
