Pandemonium Rocks festival has been struck with another blow as US rockers Palaye Royale have pulled out just days before the event kicks off in Melbourne.

Due to a family emergency, the band can no longer travel to Australia for the four Pandemonium festival dates in Melbourne, Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane. A local act will now open all festival dates, with the act's name and set times to be revealed tomorrow.

“It is with heavy hearts that we are cancelling our performance at the upcoming Pandemonium Festival,” Palaye Royale wrote in a statement. “We have encountered a family emergency that requires our immediate attention and presence.

“In light of this unfortunate circumstance, we extend our sincerest apologies to all those who were anticipating our performance. We are grateful for the understanding and support of our fans, as well as the organisers of Pandemonium Festival, during this challenging time.”

Taking to Instagram, Palaye Royale—comprising brothers Remington Leith, Sebastian Danzig, and Emerson Barrett—revealed that their mother, who was diagnosed with stage four brain and lung cancer last year, has been “rushed back to the hospitals” and given “a few more hours to days” to live.

Palaye Royale's departure from the festival line-up follows the departures of Dead Kennedys (an announcement they shared independently), Deep Purple, Placebo, Gang Of Four, Gyroscope, and Petch.

Co-headliners Alice Cooper and Blondie will still perform alongside The Psychedelic Furs, Wheatus, Wolfmother and Cosmic Psychos.

Palaye Royale would have toured Australia in support of their 2022 album, Fever Dream, and subsequent EPs: last year’s Sextape and Songs For Sadness, released earlier this year. The Las Vegas trio are known for their music, which is “equal parts Britpop, glam rock and art-punk”, and have developed an enthusiastic fanbase thanks to their fast-paced dirty rock n’ roll and unparalleled swagger.

After weeks of speculation about the festival’s alterations, cancellations, and other dramas, organisers confirmed on 8 April that the Gold Coast show (Saturday, 27 April) has been moved from Doug Jennings Park to the Broadwater Parklands; they say this will ensure “ease of access and egress as well as accessible car parking.” The Brisbane event on Sunday, 28 April, has also been moved from the Sandstone Point Hotel to Eatons Hill Hotel.

The festival begins at Melbourne’s Caribbean Gardens this Saturday, 20 April.
