Sonic Youth frontman Thurston Moore encountered some serious bad luck this week when some arsehole stole his 1960 Fender Jazzmaster guitar from a hotel room in Philadelphia.

Moore reported the theft on Sonic Youth News two days ago, noting the guitar was stolen from the Best Western in Philadelphia around midnight on December 12. He says the guitar has “a Mastery Bridge, and the pickguard has been changed so stickers might be different. It’s a 1960 serial#41927”.

While a police report has been filed, Moore is encouraging guitar stores in the area to keep a look out for the Fender Jazzmaster.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time Moore has fallen victim to theft while on tour. In 1999, Sonic Youth had a truckload of their equipment stolen in Orange County, California, which they’re still recovering to this day.

Thurston Moore was in the country this past October for the Melbourne Festival and a series of headline shows.
